Evening Cook/Chef

We’re looking for an enthusiastic Evening Chef to join our kitchen team at The Wigtown Ploughman, a community-owned pub at the heart of Wigtown.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with fresh ingredients, preparing hearty and welcoming food, and being part of a friendly, supportive team. You’ll be responsible for helping us deliver great pub food in the evenings, creating a warm experience for our customers.

Key responsibilities:

  • Preparing and cooking meals for evening service
  • Maintaining high standards of food quality, presentation, and hygiene
  • Working with the team to keep service running smoothly
  • Supporting menu development and seasonal specials
  • Ensuring compliance with food safety standards

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience in a kitchen environment (pub or casual dining preferred)
  • A passion for good, honest food
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
  • Reliability, creativity, and a positive attitude
  • Level 3 Food hygiene certification

What we offer:

  • A welcoming, community-focused workplace
  • Flexible hours and a supportive team
  • The chance to shape and influence our growing food offering
  • Competitive salary

If you’d like to be part of something special and help us build an exciting food offering for our community pub, we’d love to hear from you.

We’ve opened up our kitchen to ensure it’s fit for purpose and have recruited excellent temporary chefs to cope with the demand of the really busy book festival period, but we’re seeking a long term chef to grow with the community pub.

Contract information

This role will be offered subject to suitable references on a guaranteed hours basis, with pro-rata holiday pay and statutory pension requirements. A permanent contract will be offered upon the satisfactory completion of a three-month probationary period.
