We’re looking for friendly, flexible people to join our team at The Wigtown Ploughman. The pub is community-owned, and we want staff who enjoy working with people, can muck in where needed, and are up for making the place welcoming for everyone.
This role is a bit of everything: some shifts will be in the kitchen helping with prep and cooking, others might be waiting tables, and you could also find yourself behind the bar pouring pints. No two days are quite the same, so we’re after people who like variety and can keep smiling when things get busy.
We’re hiring
- Position: Kitchen & Waiting Staff
- Hourly rate: £12.60 (minimum)
- Our minimum pay is tied to the Real Living Wage in Scotland
- Contract type: Temporary 2 month contract, with a potential for either part or full-time positions at the end of the contract
- Immediate availability as we’re hiring for our kitchen opening by the 22nd September.
What you’ll be doing
- Helping prepare food in the kitchen (chopping, prepping, plating, washing up, keeping things clean).
- Supporting cooks with simple dishes and making sure food looks good before it goes out.
- Serving food and drinks to customers with a friendly attitude.
- Jumping behind the bar when needed – pulling pints, pouring wines, and providing excellent customer service.
- Keeping everything clean, tidy and safe – from the bar top to the kitchen counters.
- Working as part of a small team to make sure service runs smoothly.
What we’re looking for
- Some hospitality experience (kitchen, bar, or waiting) would be great, but attitude matters most.
- Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate (essential).
- Allergen Awareness training (essential).
- Level 3 Food Hygiene (desirable).
- Someone happy to turn their hand to different jobs.
- A good communicator who can work well in a team.
- Physically fit enough to be on your feet and do the lifting that comes with pub work.
