We’re looking for a Building Manager

The Wigtown Ploughman is looking for an enthusiastic, experienced and people-focused Pub Manager to lead our day-to-day operations and help shape the next chapter of our community-owned pub.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a business with a real purpose. Owned by the Wigtown Community Inn Community Benefit Society, The Wigtown Ploughman exists not only as a successful hospitality business, but as a hub for the local community. Since reopening, we’ve established a welcoming bar, restaurant and accommodation offering, and we’re now looking for the right person to help us continue to grow.

About the role

As Building Manager, you will be responsible for the smooth day-to-day running of the business, ensuring our customers receive an excellent experience every time they visit.

Working alongside the Management Committee, you’ll provide strong leadership to our team, maintaining high standards of customer service, hospitality and operational efficiency across the bar, restaurant and accommodation.

You’ll be someone who enjoys leading from the front—supporting staff, solving problems, motivating the team and continually looking for ways to improve how we operate.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage the daily operation of the pub, restaurant and guest accommodation.
  • Lead, motivate and support the bar, kitchen and housekeeping teams.
  • Ensure consistently high standards of customer service and hospitality.
  • Manage staff rotas and day-to-day staffing requirements.
  • Assist with recruitment, training and staff development.
  • Work closely with the kitchen team to deliver an excellent food and drink offering.
  • Oversee accommodation operations, ensuring rooms are presented to a high standard.
  • Help monitor stock levels, ordering and supplier relationships.
  • Ensure compliance with licensing, food hygiene, health & safety and company procedures.
  • Monitor business performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, service and profitability.
  • Support the planning and delivery of events, community activities and special promotions.
  • Act as an ambassador for The Wigtown Ploughman within the local community.

About you

We’re looking for someone who brings both experience and personality.

Ideally you’ll have:

  • Previous management experience within hospitality.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • A positive, hands-on approach.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
  • The confidence to make decisions and manage busy service periods.
  • A passion for delivering outstanding customer experiences.
  • The ability to inspire, coach and develop a team.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and busy periods when required.
  • Experience managing accommodation or hotel operations would be advantageous but is not essential.

What we offer

  • Initial 6-month contract, with the potential to become a permanent position.
  • Approximately 37 hours per week (flexible working pattern).
  • Competitive salary based on experience.
  • Performance-related bonus package.
  • The opportunity to play a key role in one of Scotland’s most exciting community-owned pubs.
  • A supportive Management Committee and an enthusiastic team committed to making The Wigtown Ploughman a success.
