About The Wigtown Ploughman
The Wigtown Ploughman is a community-owned pub, restaurant, accommodation and community hub in the heart of Scotland’s National Book Town. Owned by the Wigtown Community Inn Community Benefit Society, we’re more than just a pub. We exist to provide a welcoming place for local people and visitors while creating lasting benefits for our community. Since reopening in March 2025, we’ve grown steadily and are now looking for another Hospitality Assistant to join our team.
About the position
Position: Hospitality Assistant
Hourly Rate: £13.45 per hour
We pay the rate of a Real Living Wage Employer.
Contract: Part-time
We’re looking for someone who enjoys working with people and is happy to get involved wherever needed. No two shifts are the same. One day you might be serving lunches and welcoming customers, another evening you could be behind the bar, and on another shift you might be preparing our guest accommodation ready for arriving visitors.
This is a varied role that combines waiting on tables, evening bar work and helping us maintain our guest accommodation, including room and apartment changeovers when required. If you enjoy working in a busy environment, take pride in delivering excellent customer service, and like being part of a small, supportive team, we’d love to hear from you.
What you’ll be doing
- Welcoming customers and providing friendly, professional service.
- Taking food and drink orders.
- Serving meals and drinks.
- Working behind the bar during evening service.
- Preparing and serving a range of drinks.
- Processing payments and operating the till.
- Setting up and clearing tables.
- Helping keep the bar, restaurant and customer areas clean, tidy and welcoming throughout the day.
- Preparing guest accommodation for arriving visitors, including hotel room and apartment changeovers.
- Making beds, replenishing amenities and ensuring accommodation is presented to a high standard.
- Supporting colleagues across the business wherever needed to ensure an excellent experience for our customers.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone with a positive attitude who enjoys working as part of a team and takes pride in delivering great hospitality.
Ideally you’ll have:
- Previous experience in a hospitality, bar, restaurant, café or hotel environment.
- A friendly, approachable and professional manner.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- The ability to stay organised and work well during busy periods.
- A flexible approach and willingness to turn your hand to a variety of tasks.
- An eye for detail and pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends.
- You must be at least 18 years old.
